Evaluation Question 1

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Furthermore, the digipak and magazine advert also use and challenge normal, expected conventions. The digipak is 6-sided, a conventional digipak. The back cover follows the conventional listing of song names on the cd, and the inlays are all pretty conventional in the way they're set out, however it is the actual design of the product that challenges normal conventions of digipaks.

The designing of the digipak was inspired by various shots that I placed on my moodboard. It features the artist in what is almost a 3D effect, giving the viewer the impression the image should be viewed with 3D glasses. This is something I personally have never seen on an album cover, and believe its an interesting technique that has worked well for me. By using this design for the digipak, it allows for a common theme to link the digipak with the video (as this type of shot is used in the video), another convention in the music world.

The magazine advert follows the conventions you would expect it too. Five star ratings provided by magazines, short quotes from respected opinions, and a picture of the album cover itself. This is an idea I took from the analysing of Rihanna's magazine advert. I decided to develop that idea into my own, and created my magazine advert with inspiration from Rihanna's.
